Claire Walters Qualifies for NCAA National Championship

Highlights from the Meet
  • Claire Walters entered Thursday with the 19th fastest time in the nation in the 1500m with a season-best time of 4:29.98 last week at Baldwin Wallace. With the later start time at Mount Union, Head Coach Vince Oliver made the decision to have Walters and Campbell run in just the 800m at Mount Union with the confidence that her time would remain in the top 22. She posted a time of 2:17.70 to set a new school record. 
  • Jessica Campbell was right behind Walters with a time of 2:18.83 in the 800m.

  • Three runners jumped ahead of Walters in the national standings, as Walters would hold on to the 22nd and final spot with a time of 4:29.98 in the 1500m. Six runners elected to run other events at the Championship so Walters will be seeded 16th heading in to the event. This means that she will be competing in Rochester, New York for the National Championship on May 25th-27th. This meet will be a homecoming for her, as the New York-native will get to compete close to home. This will be her second trip to a National Championship this season, as she earned All-American honors last fall in cross country. She joins Alison Bryant, as the only two Women's Track & Field athletes in school history to qualify for the Outdoor National Championship.
