Barons Fall to Hilbert on Senior Day

STEUBENVILLE – The Franciscan men's lacrosse team honored its three graduating seniors, Mike Rosaschi, Jonas McCaig, and Leo Munday, prior to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference game against Hilbert. The Hawks walked away with a 27-6 win, Saturday afternoon.

With still two games to go in the regular season, McCaig, a four-year member of the team, will graduate as the program's all-time leading scorer with 191 career points, 130 goals, and 61 assists, including his four goals today. His 28 assists so far this year sets the program's single-season record. Rosaschi, also a four-year member of the team, is currently third all-time at Franciscan with 116 points, fourth in goals with 77, and third with 39 assists. Munday has played for the Barons for two seasons and has two goals and two assists while causing six turnovers and picking up 16 ground balls.

The Hawks opened the game with a goal just 10 seconds into action and rattled off 13-straight to take a 13-0 lead in the first quarter. Franciscan ending its scoring drought just 31 seconds into the second quarter and junior Dan McCartney found the back of the net for his 29th goal of the season. Hilbert than went on a 10-0 run spanning the rest of the second and most of the third quarter to take a 23-1 lead with 4:18 to play in the third.

McCaig sandwiched a pair of goals, one assisted by T.M. Thomas around a pair of Hawk goals in the final two minutes of the quarter before Hilbert ended the third with its 25th goal to take a 25-3 lead with 15 minutes to play.

McCaig scored a pair of goals assisted by Thomas within 22 seconds of each other to open the fourth quarter to cut the deficit down to 25-5 with 13:36 to play in the quarter. Hilbert posted two more goals before McCartney capped the scoring with 3:25 to play to bring the score to its final, 27-6 in favor of the Hawks.

McCaig led the Barons with four goals while McCartney posted a pair of goals. Freshman Jerome Harkins led the team with 11 ground balls while causing three turnovers. Freshman Grant McKeown made nine saves in the net for the Barons.

Franciscan hits the road for the final two regular season games. First, Franciscan travels to Muskingum for a 4:00 pm game on April 18 before wrapping up the regular season at La Roche on April 25 at 4:00 pm.
