DANBURY, Conn. – The Barons 2017 season will continue as the Franciscan men's soccer team has been selected to the 2017 ECAC Tournament and will square off against Grove City on Saturday in Erie, PA.
The Barons earned the No. 3 seed in pod one and will face No. 2 Grove City at Penn St.-Behrend at 2pm. The winner will face the winner of the first game of the pod, which features No. 1 Penn St.-Behrend and No. 4 Penn St.-Harrisburg.
The Barons enter the tournament with an 11-6-2 overall record, setting a new school win record after their 2-1 win over La Roche in the conference semifinal match.
Senior Leo Herrmann leads the Franciscan offense this season with 19 goals and 45 points, both single-season records for Franciscan. Freshman JP Bobak is second on the team with nine goals and five assists for 23 points on the season. Freshman Sebastian Koehler has chipped in five assists and two goals while sophomore Ian Baldau has six goals on the year and one assist.
Grove City (10-5-4) enters the game after falling in the Presidents' athletic conference semifinal game to Geneva last Wednesday, 1-0 in overtime.
The Wolverines are led by Franklin Tropiano with seven goals and six assists while Jonathan Burton leads the team with eight goals and three assists on the year.
Franciscan and Grove City have faced each other once in program history as the Barons won the meeting 2-1 in double overtime in 2008. Current assistant coach Zeph Swope scored both goals for the Barons, including the game-winner in the 104th minute.
Game time is set for 2pm in the opening round of the 2017 ECAC tournament between Franciscan and Grove City in Erie.
