STEUBENVILLE – After rainy conditions forced the Franciscan men's soccer team to move their neutral site game against Alfred State to Steubenville, the Barons' took advantage of their new found home field advantage and blanked the Pioneers, 1-0, Saturday afternoon.
The Barons improved to 3-1 on the year while Alfred State dropped to 0-3.
Sophomore keeper Brian Gaughan turned in his best performance in the net for the Barons this season as he made 15 saves in his first career shutout. Nine of he saves came in the first half.
Senior Brennan McNamara was the difference maker as he found the back of the net than six minutes into the first half to give Franciscan a 1-0 lead and the win.
The Barons out-shot the Pioneers 21-20 while Alfred State held a 3-2 advantage in corners.
Franciscan gets back to action today as the Barons take on Muskingum at 12pm at Bethany.
