STEUBENVILLE – The Franciscan men's team dropped a non-conference contest to Westminster (Pa.), 4-0, Wednesday afternoon.

The Titans (4-1) used a pair of goals in the first and second half each while the Westminster keepers combined for four saves to keep the Barons off of the board for the first time this season.

Peter Mattocks got the Titans on the board first as he took a long pass into the box from Nick Iregui and placed the ball in the upper right corner of the net for the 1-0 lead 14:31 into action. Iregui scored his first of three goals for the game just three minutes later after he scored on a corner kick by Noah Weiss.

Franciscan had one of their best scoring chances four minutes later as sophomore Sebastian Koehler put a hard shot towards the goal but he got a little too much air under it and the ball went just over the crossbar. Sophomore JP Bobak put the Barons next shot on net but the Westminster keeper, A.J. Bove made his first save of the game to keep the Barons off of the board.

Neither team could find the back of the net for the rest of the half and Westminster took the 2-0 lead into halftime.

Iregui scored two more goals in the second half to give Westminster a 4-0 lead with 22 minutes to play.

Westminster got off three more shots before the end of the match but sophomore goalie Brian Gaughan made a stop and two shots went wide. With 2:33 left in regulation, junior Jake Rigaud took a hard shot right on net and the Westminster keeper, Erza Cimino, made the final save of the game.

"There are no moral victories, you have to win the game," remarked head coach Christian Bobak. "But I am proud of how the guys finished this game and played hard until the end. Sebastian and Liam Nagle played really well for us today; we have to keep getting better and play our game."

The Barons look to rebound from the loss as they travel to Mt. St. Joseph on Sunday for a 3:00 pm contest.
