Lady Barons Split with Hilbert on Senior Day

STEUBENVILLE – The Franciscan softball team celebrated its lone graduating senior, Lindsey Finch, with an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference doubleheader split with Hilbert on Saturday.

Franciscan opened the twin bill with a 10-6 win in the first game before dropping the nightcap, 7-3.

The Lady Barons jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Freshman Allyson Weiss singled to lead off the frame and promptly stole second and third. Sophomore Kathleen Thompson drew a walk and stole second before sophomore Anna Fluharty was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Sophomore Ashley Kondracki followed with getting hit by a pitch as well to bring home Weiss. Junior Anna Ames capped the scoring with a sac fly to center to bring home Thompson for the 2-0 lead.

Franciscan tacked on three more runs in the third, thanks in part to a two-run home run from Kondracki and an RBI single from Ames to give the Lady Barons a 5-0 lead.

The Hawks got four back in the top of the fifth off two hits and two Lady Baron errors to trail by just one, 5-4.

Franciscan got two of the runs back in the bottom of the fifth. Kondracki went deep for the second time in the game to lead off the frame for the 6-4 lead. With one out, Ames hit one over the fence for her first career home run and the 7-4 lead.

The Lady Barons added three more runs to push their lead to 10-4 thanks to a two-run single from Kondracki and a sacrifice fly from Anderson.

The Lady Barons gave up two runs in the top of the seventh but Queen got the final two outs with the bases loaded for the save.

Franciscan jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first in the second game as Fluharty doubled home, Thompson. Sophomore Kayla Anderson reached on an error that brought home Fluharty before Finch set a sac fly to left to score Kondracki.

The Hawks used a one-run second and three-run third to take a 4-3 lead and tacked on a run in the fifth, sixth and seventh for the 7-3 win.

Finch was honored prior to the game and is a four-year member of the Lady Barons. Finch has hit .260 so far for Franciscan. In her time in a Lady Baron uniform, Finch has scored 40 runs and drove in 36. Finch has 11 doubles, four triples and two home runs in her career.
