LOUISVILLE, KY - The Franciscan softball team had three players honored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association as they were named 2018 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes, following the season.
To qualify as an NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete must have acquired a 3.5 GPA for the academic year.
The rankings and honors recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across the Association's membership categories. NCAA Division III led the way with 1,600 student-athletes earning a 3.5 grade-point average or higher for 2017-18. NCAA Division I and Division II followed with 1,311 and 1,026 honorees. High School weighted and High School unweighted earned 743 and 589 distinctions. Two-year colleges amassed 553 recipients and NAIA totaled 456.
Following the season, Kondracki was named to All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference second team as a first baseman. The trio was named to the All-AMCC Academic Honor Roll while Thompson and Kondracki earned Peak Performer honors as well.
The Lady Barons went 14-14 in 2018 under the direction of fourth-year head coach Jim Walker. The Lady Barons were the NCAA DIII statistical champion in stolen bases per game, averaging 4.46 stolen bases per game last season.
Franciscan is set to open the 2019 campaign on March 2 when the Lady Barons travel to Washington & Jefferson for a 1:00 pm non-conference doubleheader.
