Lady Barons Selected 10th in Preseason Poll

ORCHARD PARK, NY - The Franciscan women's basketball team was voted to finish 10th in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference by the coaches as announced by the league office Monday.

La Roche College, winners of the past seven AMCC women's basketball titles, was selected by the AMCC coaches to once again successfully defend their title in 2017-18.  Pitt-Bradford, boasting the reigning Player of the Year in Ali Rinfrette, is expected to finish in second place, while Medaille College rounds out the top three.

The Lady Barons, led by sixth-year head coach Suzy Delaney, return four players to the court for the fall semester, including junior Gaby De Jesus, sophomores Kaitlyn Sonneberger, Rose Judge, and Cianna Vaughan. Franciscan will welcome back sophomore Abby Baierl for the second half of the season after her semester overseas. 

De Jesus (Crystal Lake, IL/South) is the team captain this season and shot 35% from the three-point line last year. Baierl led team with 11.3 points per game last season, while shooting 35% from the three-point line. The sophomore also added 5.3 rebounds per game for the Lady Barons. 

Franciscan officially opens its 2017-18 season on Wednesday as the Lady Barons travel to Chatham for a 6:00 pm tip-off.
