Lady Barons Lose on the Road to Mount Aloysius

CRESSON, Pa. – The Franciscan women's basketball team stumbled against Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent, Mount Aloysius as the Mounties claimed a 64-28 victory, Wednesday evening.

Junior Gaby DeJesus and freshman Annie McGraw led the Lady Barons with six points each, while sophomore Abby Baierl paced Franciscan with seven rebounds.

The Mounties jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first seven minutes of the first half before DeJesus got the Lady Barons on the board with a three-pointer thanks to a pass from sophomore Cianna Vaughan. Mount Aloysius closed out the first quarter with the final basket of the period with 42 seconds left to give the Mounties a 14-3 lead. MTA out-scored the Lady Barons 13-7 in the next 10 minutes to take a 27-10 lead into halftime.

After a 9-0 opened the third quarter for MTA, McGraw drained a three with 6:17 to play to cut the lead down to 36-13. The Lady Barons struggled to get in a rhythm on offense as the Mounties closed out the half on a 15-7 run to take a 48-20 lead with 10 minutes to play.

Mount Aloysius closed out the game out-scoring Franciscan 16-8 in the final quarter for the 64-28 win.

Franciscan looks to rebound as the Lady Barons host Penn St.-Behrend on Saturday at 4pm.
