Lady Barons Score First, Can't Finish Against Hilbert
HAMBURG, NY- In the second game against Hilbert College this season, Franciscan University women's lacrosse came out strong scoring the first goal of the game but was unable to keep up the momentum and eventually fell to the Hawks, 10-4.
Because this was the Barons second time facing Hilbert, Franciscan went into the game with specific goals. They wanted 25 minutes of possession and exceeded that total one minute, tallying 26 minutes.
"We were trying to keep up the intensity throughout the game," head coach Maura Conant said. "We were a little splotchy but better than usual."
Midfielder Shannon Root came out strong scoring the first goal of the game. Also scoring a goal each for the Barons was attacker Tracy McClelland and midfielder Lauren Noce, who have consistently been the aggressors of the team on offense.
Defender Sarah Wampler was able to be flexible and adapt with position switches during the game that resulted in her first goal of the season.
"We moved her around a lot," Conant said. "We put her on defense. We put her on as an attack, and she ended up getting her first goal of the season, which is exciting."
The Lady Barons are now looking towards this upcoming week and the chance to prepare for their final game of the season.
"We need to have better decision making," Conant said. "I'm looking forward to having some rest and practice this week and to end the season on a strong note."
The Lady Barons will play their final game of the season at home against Baldwin Wallace on Saturday, April 20, at 1 p.m.
