STEUBENVILLE - For the fifth year in a row, the Franciscan women's lacrosse team was named an IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad while three players were named to the 2017 Academic Honor Roll.
The IWLCA has named 308 schools across Division I, II, III, and NAIA as IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squads for the 2016-17 academic year. To qualify for this prestigious honor, the women's lacrosse team must have posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the academic year.
Seniors Christine Rice and Catherine Cahill while junior Mary Krolicki were named to the 2017 Academic Honor Roll. It was the second honor for Rice and Cahill while Krolicki earned the honor for the first time.
The IWLCA honored 532 student-athletes from 159 different institutions on the 2017 IWLCA Zag Sports Division III Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.
While excelling in the classroom this past year, the Lady Barons also excelled on the field. Franciscan finished the year 9-7 and won the inaugural AMCC showcase championship, defeating Hilbert 17-16 on May 7.
