STEUBENVILLE – The wait is over, the Franciscan women's tennis team has learned they will be traveling to Fredericksburg, VA for the opening round of the 2018 NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament to take on Washington and Lee. The Lady Barons and Generals will square off on Friday, May 11 at 2:00 pm.
Franciscan heads to its second-straight NCAA tournament after winning back-to-back AMCC titles back in October. The Lady Barons had an impressive run through conference play as they did not drop a point in conference play or the conference tournament to finish 82-0 against conference teams. Franciscan swept the first team singles and doubles honors and sophomore Madelyn Conrad was named Player of the Year. Head coach Scott Greve earned his first women's tennis Coach of the Year honors.
The Lady Barons are currently 12-6 on the season heading into the tournament.
Franciscan will travel to Fredericksburg, VA to the campus of the University of Mary Washington to face Washington and Lee in the second match of the day at 2:00 pm. The winner of the FUS/WL match will take on host Mary Washington on Saturday at 2:00 pm. In the other first-round match, Lebanon Valley squares off against N.C. Wesleyan at 10:00 am on Friday. The winner of that match will take on Amherst on Saturday at 10:00 am.
This will be the first meeting between the Lady Barons and Generals as W&L comes into the tournament with an 18-7 overall record. The Generals earned their bid to the tournament after winning the Old Dominion Athletic Conference title with a 5-0 victory over Virginia Wesleyan.
