Lady Barons Sweep La Roche for AMCC Win

STEUBENVILLE – The Franciscan women's tennis team picked up right where they left off against Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponents as the Lady Barons swept La Roche, 9-0, Saturday morning at Belleview Park.

Senior Maria Binette and Madelyn Conrad set the tone for the match as they quickly worked an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, seniors Julia Razook and Taranee Karimpour followed suit with an 8-1 win of their own. Junior Grace Hammel and sophomore Ana Victoria Haddad Garcia turned in an 8-1 win over their own at No. 2 doubles to give the Lady Barons a 3-0 lead heading into singles action.

The Lady Barons continued their unbeaten streak against AMCC teams as Franciscan posted six wins in singles.

Hammel posted a quick 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles while Razook turned in 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles. Binette won her 18th-straight AMCC singles match as she picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles.

Conrad won her 11th straight AMCC regular season singles match with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. Haddad won her first conference singles match with a 7-5, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles and freshman Zoey Stapleton won her first match in a Lady Baron uniform with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.

The Lady Barons return to action next week as they travel to non-conference opponent Catholic in Washington, D.C. next Friday for a 3:00 pm match.
