BETHANY, W. Va. – The Franciscan men's and women's track and field teams competed at the PAC Quad Meet South held at Bethany College, Wednesday, and collected 14 personal records and 25 top-10 finishes.
Senior Suki Almeida highlighted the women's performances as she broke the Franciscan record in the 400-meter dash with a first place finish of 1:00.70. Anne Sweeney and Sarah Kuepper each posted a personal-best as well with times of 1:08.30 and 1:17.36, respectively.
The Lady Barons dominated the 200-meter dash as four of the top nine runners were from Franciscan. The first Lady Baron to cross the finish line was Maria Heisler with a personal-best time of 29.23 to take fourth. Sweeney also PR'd the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.27 to take seventh. Kristie Kelley took eighth with a time of 33.77 while Kuepper took ninth with a time of 33.95.
Emily Theurer took fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:33.37 before Maria Potvin set a personal record with a time of 2:37.01 to take ninth. Theurer also took ninth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:35.72. Potvin also PR'd the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 13:22.76 to take third.
In the field, Maria Castello hit a PR as she won the triple jump with a distance of 9.55m (31'4") and Elizabeth Collins hit a personal-best with a throw of 7.93 meters (26'0.25") in the shot put. In the javelin, Rachel Solomon hit a PR with a throw of 28.54 meters (93'8") and Collins finished eighth with a throw of 18.2 meters (59'8").
On the men's side, Ben Erste (11.69) took ninth and John Paul Tysz (11.79) took 10th while Quinton Smith hit a PR in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.19.Tysz hit a PR in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.53.
Freshman Jim Craig took sixth in the 400-meter dash with a personal record of 51.28 while Patrick Tansill (2:04.13/7th) and John Bolster (2:05.45/10th) hit personal records in the 800-meter run.
Matthew Crotteau finished third in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:28.61 while Nicholas Long hit a season-best in the race with a time of 17:21.19.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Craig, Carlo Fabian, Erste, and Tysz took second in the race with a time of 44.56. The 4x400-meter relay team of Bolster, Joe Gallagher, Tansill, and Crotteau took ninth (3:45.40) and Nathaniel Belk, Craig, Fabian, and James Mello took 10th with a time of 3:47.32.
Camillo Saenz took ninth in the javelin with a throw of 37.52m/123'01".
Franciscan will compete at the Baldwin Wallace Invitational on Saturday.
