WOOSTER, Ohio – The Franciscan volleyball was swept by Frostburg State in the opening round of the Ginny Hunt Classis, Friday afternoon.
Frostburg opened up a 4-0 lead in the first set before jumping up 18-5. The Lady Barons continued to battle and earned four points back, the last on a kill from Meghan Bayer but dropped the first set, 25-19.
In the second set, Franciscan jumped out to a 3-2 lead thanks to another kill from Bayer, but Frostburg rolled to a 20-5 edge before finishing things with four-straight points. The Bobcats continued their momentum in the third set, opening up a 16-5 edge before ultimately completing the sweep with a 25-16 win.
"I am just really proud of the girls and their fight today," remarked head coach Kelly Herrmann. "We never stopped fighting today and never lost our joy."
Bayer finished the day with four kills while junior Maria Ciola posted six kills and seven digs.
"Meghan was definitely a bright spot for us today," continued Coach Herrmann. "We are using these matches to really see what we are made of and what we need to work on. We are growing and getting better each game.
Franciscan continues in the Ginny Hunt Classic tomorrow against Capital and Wooster.
