Suzy Delaney is the third head coach for the Franciscan women’s basketball team since Franciscan joined the NCAA in the fall of 2008.
Prior to being named head coach, Delaney served as the assistant coach for two years under Luke Heusel and three years under Kelly Herrmann.
Delaney assumed head coaching duties beginning with the 2012-13 season and has coached three All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference honorees during her tenure. Delaney was named the AMCC Coach of the Year following by the 2014-15 after she guided the Lady Barons to their first appearance in the conference tournament. That season, Franciscan finished 10-15 overall, the highest win total in program history, and 8-10 in the conference.
In 2017-18, eight players under Delaney were named to the AMCC Academic All-Conference team.
Following the 2015-16 season, the Lady Barons earned the Team Peak Performer award from the AMCC for having the highest team GPA among women’s basketball teams in the conference.
Delaney had the honor of playing high school basketball under the direction of OVAC Champion coach, Steve Laposki at Union Local High in Belmont, Ohio. Her basketball career continued at NCAA Division II, Wheeling Jesuit University, for two seasons. At WJU, she was named Best Defensive Player both seasons. Although elected as a co-captain for her junior season, Delaney felt called to become a member of the FUS family and transferred in the summer of 1996. At Franciscan, she was twice named the Female Athlete of the Year.
Delaney graduated from Franciscan in 1999 with a BA in biology and theology and in 2015 with an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She currently serves as a counselor in Franciscan’s Wellness Center.
Delaney and her husband Tim who is the FUS Director of Alumni and asst. women’s basketball coach reside in Steubenville with their children.
