Lady Barons Fall to La Roche
By Dylan Ehle
STEUBENVILLE, OH - The Lady Barons took on La Roche at home this
Saturday night. Despite several outstanding statistical
performances from multiple members of the Lady Barons team, they
lost to La Roche in four games, 23-25, 16-25, 25-19, and 25-12.
Once again, the Lady Barons were without star middle hitter Ali
Aeschliman's of Steubenville, OH, who was still sidelined with an
injury. Aeschliman's absence in the middle significantly
weakened their attack, and left them more vulnerable to La Roche's
front row.
The first game of the match was extremely close, as both teams
jockeyed for position, trying to obtain an early advantage in the
match. The Lady Barons kept with La Roche for the majority of
the match, but in the end La Roche escaped with a 25-23 victory.
The Lady Barons were much less competitive in the second game,
losing again to La Roche, 16-25. However, they bounced back
in the third game, taking a decisive 25-19 victory.
But La Roche proved to be too much for the Lady Barons in the
final game, and they took the game, and consequently, the match,
25-12.
Several Lady Barons posted impressive numbers in the loss.
Kelsey Bowker had twelve kills on twenty-five attack attempts,
while Kristin Belleque added nine in twenty-seven attempts, and
Bernadette Moore added six kills of her own. Teresa Marcotte
contributed fourteen assists, while teammate Paddy Scott had seven.
The Lady Barons' record now stands at 2-10 (1-4 in conference
games). Their next match is an October 5th tri-match at Kent
St. Univ. Tuscarawas.
