FUS Lady Barons Soccer Defeat the Lady Bison of Bethany College

STEUBENVILLE, OH - Franciscan University of Steubenville's Kendra Evangelho lead the Lady Barons to a 3-2 victory over Bethany College Wednesday, September 10 in a competitive show-down.

FUS Senior Kimberly Drew put the first goal on the board in the 9th minute of the game with an assist from Evangelho. The Bison's retaliated with a goal by Forward Breane Minardi, tying the game until the second half, when Evangelho scored in the 27th minute.

Cassie Spalding of Bethany College then evened the score once more, and the teams battled it out until Evangelho put the Lady Barons on top with the winning goal in the 50th minute. Evangelho commented on the game by saying, "We had a lot of fun out there and we had a lot of heart."

The Bison's out-shot the Barons 13-11, but FUS Keeper Nikki Traylor made an impressive 11 saves, playing a large role in Lady Barons' victory. "I felt good going into (the game)," said Traylor. "It was a good week of practice and I think we all felt prepared."

Head Coach Patrick Doering was most pleased with the "passion" shown by the Lady Barons during the game. "The desire was there today," said Doering. "They wanted to win. That team was a good team, but at the end of the day their desire won."

The Lady Barons' record now stands at 2-2-0. Their next game will be against Hilbert College this Saturday, Sept. 13, at 1 p.m. at Franciscan University of Steubenville.
