Lady Barons Tie Geneva

Box Score

STEUBENVILLE, OH. -  Franciscan University of Steubenville's Lady Barons went into overtime against Geneva College's Golden Tornados Wednesday, Sept. 17, with the competitive game ending in a 0-0 draw.

The Lady Barons outshot the Golden Tornados 16-10, with FUS Senior Kelly Koehr leading the way for the Barons with five shots, followed by Freshman Kelsey Bowers with four.

It was a strong game defensively for the Lady Barons; however FUS Goalkeeper Nikki Traylor met her match in Geneva Goalkeeper Lauren Londino. Londino made a total of 11 saves and Traylor made a total of 10.

The Lady Barons played an aggressive game, totaling 10 fouls to Geneva's four. But the Golden Tornados struggled with offside's', having a total of six to the Lady Barons' one.

FUS Junior Erin Fitzpatrick, a captain for the Lady Barons, said, "It was a really well-played game and (it) was really well-matched. Our defensive kept them off and their defensive kept us off, so that's why it resulted in the way it did."

Head Coach Patrick Doering was pleased overall with the Lady Barons' performance.

"We played a really good game," said Doering. "We just tied one of the better teams in the PAC. (Geneva College) is a good soccer school with a good tradition behind it. To come out with a tie is okay . . .  it's a positive game for us, especially because it's clear that the girls' conditioning and tactical abilities are getting better every time we play."

The Lady Barons' next game will be Saturday, Sept. 20, at Medaille College at 6 p.m.
