Box Score STEUBENVILLE, OH. - Franciscan University of
Steubenville's Lady Barons went into overtime against Geneva
College's Golden Tornados Wednesday, Sept. 17, with the competitive
game ending in a 0-0 draw.
The Lady Barons outshot the Golden Tornados 16-10, with FUS
Senior Kelly Koehr leading the way for the Barons with five shots,
followed by Freshman Kelsey Bowers with four.
It was a strong game defensively for the Lady Barons; however
FUS Goalkeeper Nikki Traylor met her match in Geneva Goalkeeper
Lauren Londino. Londino made a total of 11 saves and Traylor made a
total of 10.
The Lady Barons played an aggressive game, totaling 10 fouls to
Geneva's four. But the Golden Tornados struggled with offside's',
having a total of six to the Lady Barons' one.
FUS Junior Erin Fitzpatrick, a captain for the Lady Barons,
said, "It was a really well-played game and (it) was really
well-matched. Our defensive kept them off and their defensive kept
us off, so that's why it resulted in the way it did."
Head Coach Patrick Doering was pleased overall with the Lady
Barons' performance.
"We played a really good game," said Doering. "We just tied one
of the better teams in the PAC. (Geneva College) is a good soccer
school with a good tradition behind it. To come out with a tie is
okay . . . it's a positive game for us, especially because
it's clear that the girls' conditioning and tactical abilities are
getting better every time we play."
The Lady Barons' next game will be Saturday, Sept. 20, at
Medaille College at 6 p.m.
