Box Score Steubenville, OH. - The Lady Barons Soccer team fell to
Muskingum College 2-1 in their first game of the season Tuesday, at
home.
The Fish out-shot the Lady Barons by a slim margin of 16-12,
with FUS goal keeper Nikki Traylor making six saves in the first
half, followed by keeper Elana Lussier, who made another four.
Senior Kimberly Drew led shots for Franciscan with a total of five,
followed by Senior Kelly Koehr with three.
Nicole Langston of Muskingum College scored the first goal for
the Fish in the 5th minute of the game and the Fish kept
the lead until Drew scored in the 3rd minute of the
second half with a cross shot assisted by Koehr.
The game remained tied until the 25th minute of the
second half, when Shelli Fisher of Muskingum scored the final and
winning goal for the game with an outside shot assisted by Alissa
Anderson.
"We were just a little too static on our attack," said Assistant
Head Coach Ward Rogers. "Our forwards created good opportunities,
but we just couldn't follow up with good shots." Ward closed by
saying, "The girls play together, they trust each other, and we can
build on that."
The Lady Barons will be looking to rebound at the Marian College
(IN) Tournament, Friday, Sept. 5, as they face the University of
St. Francis at 6 pm.
