Lady Barons Fall to University of Pittsburgh Bradford
By Dylan Ehle
STEUBENVILLE, OH - The Franciscan University of Steubenville
Lady Barons faced off against the University of Pittsburgh Bradford
on Saturday, September 20th. After three highly
completive sets, the Lady Barons lost, 18-25, 13-25, 13-25.
The first set was the best for the Lady Barons. Led by the
offensive power of Kelsey Bowker, they managed to keep pace with
Univ. of Pitt Bradford. However, they lost control of the
game towards the end, and Univ. of Pitt Bradford took a 25-18
victory.
The next two sets were difficult for the Lady Barons, as the
balls just refused to fall in their favor. "The score of the
last two games was much far lopsided than the play would indicate,"
Head Coach Kelly Herrmann said in a post-game interview, "We played
pretty well today. There were several great long rallies, and
we actually won a lot of them today."
Several Lady Barons posted impressive numbers in the loss.
Ali Aeschliman of Steubenville, OH posted four kills and three
blocks, while front row teammate Kelsey Bowker added three kills
and twenty-five attack attempts. Teresa Marcotte chipped in
with six assists, and Defensive Specialist Nicole Henson
contributed fifteen digs.
"We were up against a very talented team today," Coach Herrmann
said of their opponents, "They retained five of their starters from
last season, and they play very well together."
Herrmann also highlighted the Lady Barons' blocking as one of
their most gaping deficiencies. "Blocking is still a problem
for us," she remarked, "We were a bit overaggressive today, which
caused us to have several net violations - those are mistakes we
need to avoid if we are going to be successful."
The Lady Barons' next contest is a tri-match at Westmoreland
Community College this Wednesday, September 24th.
