Box Score Franciscan Men's Soccer Loses to Frostburg State,
3-0
STEUBENVILLE, OH. -The Franciscan University of Steubenville
men's soccer team played at the Kloska Community Day on Saturday.
In a game that pitted the top two teams in the Allegheny Mountain
Collegiate Conference, the top-ranked Barons fell to the
second-place Bobcats of Frostburg State University, 3-0. The first
half started in a deadlock with both teams battling back and forth.
FUS broke the tie with a goal by Adam Garcia in the 34th minute.
Although FUS out shot the Bobcats, 10-4, in the half, they found
themselves down, 1-0.
Unfortunately, the second half did not fare much better for the
host Barons. Garcia scored ten minutes into the half on a penalty
kick. In the 66th minute, Rick Merchant finished off Franciscan
with a goal to finalize the game at 3-0.
Steve Duran led all players with six shots on goal, followed by
Jamie Cleaton and Christian Bobak with three each. The Barons out
shot the Bobcats, 18-13.
Despite the loss, Coach Soave was proud of his team. "We played
a great game; we battled really hard all the way to the last
second. When they give it their all, that is all that we can ask
for; it is a great testimony to us as a University community and it
is also a great testament to their faith in Christ. In spite of the
circumstances they always fight to the end, which is the epitome of
what it means to be Catholic men."
FUS, whose record now falls to 5-5-1 (2-2), will now go on the
road in a break from conference play to face Washington and
Jefferson College on Wednesday. The next home contest for the
Barons will be against Penn State Altoona on Saturday, Oct. 4, on
the Franciscan University campus.
