STEUBENVILLE, OH - Franciscan University of Steubenville men's
basketball team dropped their third straight game Saturday, 69-59,
against top-ranked Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference
opponent La Roche College. The Barons now have a season record of
4-6 (0-4).
The first half proved to be an even match between both teams
with Franciscan going into the locker room trailing 27-24. The Red
Hawks made some clutch free throws down the stretch to make the
final score 69-59.
The Barons were led by junior newcomer Pete Burak. Burak, a
transfer student from the University of Michigan and a welcome
addition to the Franciscan squad, scored 16 points and had eight
boards in his second game as a Baron. Senior captain Rob Slattery
had a double-double with ten points (also his season average) and
ten rebounds. Titus and Andrew Kay rounded out the top scorers with
seven each
Franciscans head coach Sean Donovan credited his team on their
effort, "We played with a lot of heart," he said, "against the
number one team in the conference. I thought our guys played tough
and we never gave up. We controlled the tempo and hung in there
until the end when La Roche made some good shots. But I'm really
proud of the way we played tonight."
Franciscan University hits the road for a stretch as they
prepare to face non-conference opponent Bethany College on Monday
at 8 pm.
