Barons Come up Short Again
CRESSON, PA - The Barons basketball team of Franciscan
University of Steubenville traveled to Mount Aloysius College on
Tuesday, losing 67-63. With the loss, the Barons fell to 2-7
(1-5) on the season.
Franciscan was down by 22 points at halftime, but played
inspired basketball in the second half, cutting the deficit to 10
points with 10 minutes left, and then taking a 1 point advantage
with 1:30 remaining before losing 67-63.
Matt Liedel led all scorers with 24 points on the night, and
also had a double-double with his 13 rebounds. Pete Burak
also had a noteworthy performance with 12 points. Connor
Flanagan and Sam Titus also produced offensively, each tallying 8
points. Armond Perez led Mount Aloysius with 17 points, while
teammate Joey Stephenson had 15.
"This was yet another really close game that we just barely
couldn't pull out," Barons coach Sean Donovan said. "We
really rallied in the second half, and once again showed that we
can compete with anyone in this conference. We just dug too
deep of a hole in the first half, and it proved to be too much for
us to overcome this time. Matt Liedel had another outstanding
performance for us, and Pete Burak played a crucial role tonight as
well."
The Barons' next contest is at Frostburg on January 6 at 8 p.m.
