Lady Barons Fall in Final Contest to Pitt-Greensburg

Box Score

GREENSBURG, PA - The Franciscan University of Steubenville Lady Barons traveled to The University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg for their final contest of the season on Saturday, losing 61-31. With the loss, the Lady Barons finished the season with an overall record of 4-18 and Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference record of 2-16.

The Lady Barons struggled the most in the opening minutes of the contest, falling into early 14-3 and 24-5 deficits before narrowing the gap to 30-15 at halftime.

Sophomore Marian Weber led the Lady Barons in scoring with 9 points. Junior Cara Mitchell had 7 and Sophomore Nicole Naugle contributed 6. Freshman Kristen Belleque had 10 rebounds, while Sophomores Angelle Cupit and Weber had 9 and 8, respectively. Pitt-Greensburg junior Kelsey Wilcox was the leading scorer with 19 points, while Senior Nicole Reiser had 10.

Lady Barons Coach Kelly Herrmann cited her team's poor shooting and the fact that leading scorer Cara Mitchell was feeling ill as the main causes for the large margin of defeat:  "We only shot 23 percent for the game, so our shooting woes continue," she remarked.  "We had good shooting opportunities in the first half, but we were missing everything.  Also, Cara was sick today, and, although she played through it, the absence of her full strength on the court was difficult.  But it was our shooting that hurt us this game, and it's something we're really going to work on in the off-season.  We'll be a better shooting team come November."
