Box Score PITTSBURGH, PA - The Franciscan University of Steubenville Lady
Barons lost 58-39 at La Roche College on Saturday. The Lady Barons
were down 8-0 in the opening minutes, and never managed to recover.
The Lady Barons continue to struggle as their overall record falls
to 4-13 and Alleghany Mountain Collegiate Conference record to
2-12.
Lady Barons Head Coach Kelly Herrmann was quick to praise
freshman Kristin Belleque's performance in a post-game
interview: "If they give Kristin room, she's able to get open
inside for easy baskets, and she displayed that tonight."
Belleque was the leading for the Lady Barons with 12 points.
Sophomore Marian Weber had 9 points and 11 rebounds.
Captain Cara Mitchell also contributed 9 points. The leading scorer
for Redhawks was sophomore Jaquaylla Kessler with 17 points, while
freshman teammate Chloe Stewart had 9.
"La Roche has a lot of athleticism," Coach Herrmann remarked,
"They scored 72 on us the first time, but tonight we managed to
hold them to 58. The tale of this game was our turnovers, and
we shot very poorly, only 24% from the field. La Roche is in
the middle of pack in the AMCC, but we hung in there for a while in
this game."
The Lady Barons Monday night contest at Penn State Greater
Allegheny was cancelled, so their next game will be on Wednesday
night against Mt. Aloysius College at home.
