Lady Barons Lose Two at Tri-Match
PITTSBURGH, PA - The Lady Barons of Franciscan University of
Steubenville participated in a tri-match on Saturday afternoon,
losing both 3-0. They lost the first match to Pitt-Bradford,
25-16, 25-20, and 25-19, then went on to lose to Penn
State-Behrend, 25-12, 25-13, and 25-16. With these losses,
the Lady Barons dropped to 3-7 (0-2).
Several Lady Barons posted impressive numbers on the day.
In the game against Penn State-Behrend, Meg Kay had 12 kills, while
Paddy Scot and Teresa Marcotte had 8 assists each. Nicole
Henson had 19 digs, while Kay added 9 of her own.
In the second game, Meg Kay was dominant once again, tallying 18
kills, while teammate Anna Cain contributed 5. Marcotte had
13 assists in the game, while Henson had 10 digs.
"Penn State-Behrend is one of the top teams in our conference,"
Lady Barons coach Kelly Herrmann remarked in a post-game
interview. "They play with a true consistency which enables
them to win, and that's something that we're still struggling
with. In the second match against Bradford, we were more in
the game. We had a few lulls where we allowed 4 or 5 points
in a row, though, and we were unable to score that many in a row to
counter their runs. Two loses is not a great way to start in
our conference, but I'm confident that we can rebound."
The Lady Barons' next contest is Wednesday at Marietta College
at 7 p.m.
