Box Score STEUBENVILLE, OH - The Lady Barons of Franciscan University of
Steubenville faced Thiel College in their home opener on Thursday
night. The Lady Barons dominated every aspect of the game,
eventually emerging with a 2-0 victory. With the win, the
Lady Barons improved to 1-1 (0-0) on the season.
Franciscan got off to a fast start as freshman Lauren Miller
scored 10:37 into the first half. Freshman teammate Kristin
Busha added another goal at 28:01 on an assist from freshman Jacki
Hook, giving Franciscan a lead which they never relinquished.
Sophomore Stacey Lancour was the offensive standout for the Lady
Barons, registering 10 shots (5 on goal) on the night. Miller
had 1 goal on 6 shots (2 on goal), while senior Erin Fitzpatrick
and sophomore Clare Grchan each had 4 shots, 3 being on goal.
The Lady Barons' defense was stifling on the day, as they did not
allow Thiel to take a single shot, or even attempt a corner
kick. Thiel's sole standout on the night was goal keeper
junior Jill Harry, who saved 19 shots and only allowed one goal.
"The girls had an outstanding game today," Lady Barons head
coach Johann Marin remarked in a post-game interview. "It was
an all-around team performance. All of our subs played well,
and we really came together as a unit. Stacey Lancour, Marian
Weber, and Lauren Miller all had amazing games, but it was truly a
team effort today."
The Lady Barons' next contest is an away contest at Bethany
College, which is scheduled for September 9 at 7 p.m.
