Lady Barons Sweep Penn State Beaver, Lost to Bethany
PITTSBURGH, PA - The Lady Barons of Franciscan University of
Steubenville faced off against Penn State-Beaver on Friday
afternoon in a tri-match at La Roche College. The Lady Barons
played a strong all-around match, winning 25-15, 25-17, 25-19, and
boosting their record to 2-1 (0-0) on the season.
Alyssa Wappes was the offensive standout for the Lady Barons in
the match, registering 9 kills, while teammate Meg Kay had 7.
Paddy Scott played well at setter with 15 assists, with Alex
Stanley contributing 10. Wappes also led the Lady Barons
defensively with 9 digs, while libero Nicole Henson had 6 digs and
8 service aces.
"We played exceptionally well in the match, "Lady Barons head
coach Kelly Herrmann remarked in a post-game interview. "We
came out strong in the first game, and we able to set the tempo
early for the entire match. We did very well attacking the
ball, and gave ourselves several free ball opportunities.
Without Meghann Maccoun, Teresa Marcotte, and Anna Cain, who were
unable to attend today, and Ali Aeschliman and Julie Rohrman, who
are injured, we played extremely well."
The Lady Barons went on to play Bethany College at 8 p.m. in the
tri-match which they lost in three games, 25-17, 25-16, and
25-19.
Meghann Maccoun who was missing from the first match led the
Lady Barons with 5 kills. Teresa Marcotte was also able to
contribute to the second match with 9 assist, after being absent
from the first match. Anna Cain also returned to contribute 4 kills
and an ace.
The Lady Barons next match is tomorrow vs. Marrietta.
