Lady Barons Go 1-1 in La Roche College Tournament
PITTSBURGH, PA - The Lady Barons of Franciscan University of
Steubenville traveled to La Roche College for a tournament on
Saturday. The Lady Barons lost their first match to Marietta
College, 25-21, 14-25, 23-25, 25-22, 11-15, but bounced back to
sweep La Roche, 25-15, 25-16, 25-19. After these two matches,
the Lady Barons' record stands at 3-3 (1-0).
The Lady Barons' front row was dominant in their first match
against Marietta, with the starting three all finishing in double
figures with kills: Meg Kay had 14, Anna Cain had 13, and
Meghann Maccoun had 10. The offense played extremely well as
a whole, totaling 163 attack attempts for the entire match.
Teresa Marcotte led the Lady Barons with 14 assists, while chipping
in 16 digs defensively. Nicole Henson and Maccoun also had
outstanding defensive performances with 19 and 14 digs,
respectively.
Several Lady Barons also posted impressive numbers in their win
over La Roche. Kay had 7 kills in the second match, while
Maccoun and Alyssa Wappes contributed 6 and 4, respectively.
Paddy Scott had 13 assists, while teammate Alex Stanley added
5. Henson was once again the defensive standout with 10 digs,
while Julie Matanzo, Kay, and Scott contributed 9, 8, and 7,
respectively.
The Lady Barons' next contest is a home match against Muskingum
at 7 p.m.
