NEW WILMINGTON, PA-The Franciscan University of Steubenville's
women's cross country team competed well at the Fisher Invitational
at Westminster College on Saturday, September 5. The women took
second place out of eleven teams in the 6k race.
Running her first cross-country race was sophomore Theresa
Evans, who won the 6k race in 22:47 minutes. Evans was later
named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference runner of the
week.
Franciscan's second runner was senior Monica Rust, who finished
the race in 23:39 minutes and scored four points for the team.
Junior Lexie Mathis finished in twelfth place overall with a time
of 25:04 with freshman Katherine Manion finishing close behind in
fourteenth place in 25:06. Completing the tally for the team was
Junior Anna Scarnecchia, who placed sixteenth in 25:24 minutes. The
team's overall score was 47 points, and they had an average time of
24:24 minutes. Alderson-Broaddus, a NCAA Division II team, took
first place in the women's race with 41 points and had an average
score of 24:18 minutes.
"Our new runners competed very well for their first races,"
commented Coach Daniel Kuebler post-race. "There's a lot of promise
for a great season".
The women's team will next compete at the National Catholic
Championships in South Bend, IN, on September 18. Race times will
start at 2:30 pm.
