STEUBENVILLE, OH - The Barons basketball team of Franciscan
University of Steubenville hosted Bethany College on Saturday in a
non-conference match, losing 93-60. With the loss, the Barons fall
2-11 (1-8) in the season.
The Barons were competitive in the first half, leading for the
first 5 minutes of the contest. However, Bethany managed to pull
ahead 42-30 by halftime. The Bison continued their offensive push
at the start of the second half and extended their lead to 30
points by the 13 minute mark.
Josh Ducoulombier led the Barons offensively with 15 points, and
registered 3 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 assist, and 1 block. Thomas
Kleinschnitz continued his consistent play with 14 points, 5
rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 assist. Connor Flanagan also had a solid
performance with 9 points and 10 rebounds.
Joe Testa was the offensive standout for Bethany with 22 points,
while teammates Jay Lyonett and James Barton had 12 and 11 points,
respectively.
“Bethany has a really solid team,” Barons coach Sean
Donovan remarked. “For the first time this season, we
struggled with the press. Our turnovers killed us – we had 21
on the game. We only shot 36.7% to their 58.3%, and that's
what really hurt us tonight. It was nice to have a break from
conference play, though, and we will take a lot from this loss
today.”
The Barons' next game is Monday at Penn State-Behrend at
8:00 p.m.
