BEHREND, PA - The Lady Barons basketball team of Franciscan
University of Steubenville faced off against Penn State-Behrend
Monday night losing 78-43. With the loss, the Lady Barons dropped
to 0-13 (0-10).
The Lady Barons only had eight healthy players in the game, which
made them susceptible to Penn State-Behrend's fast-paced
playing. However, the short roster gave Lady Baron Sarah Clemente
extended playing time. Clemente stepped up and accumulated 12
points and 11 rebounds for the first double-double of her career.
The freshman forward shot 5 of 6 on the night, and was a dominating
presence on both ends of the court.
Cara Mitchell led the Lady Barons with 13 points and gave five
assists. Marian Weber continued her consistent play with six points
and 14 rebounds. Aly Eagle paced Behrend with 16 points, while
Kelly Nowacinski and Amy Oldach had 15 and 14 points, respectively.
“We hung with them for a large part of the first half, but
they were just able to wear us down since we only had 8
players,” Lady Barons coach Kelly Herrmann remarked.
“Sarah Clemente had a great performance for us with her first
double-double, and Cara Mitchell continued her consistent play for
us offensively. It was a tough loss, but there were certainly some
bright spots for us within it.”
The Lady Barons' next contest is this Wednesday at Penn
State-Altoona at 6 p.m.
