Franciscan University will host its second annual Kuzma
Community Night on Saturday, January 23, in Finnegan Fieldhouse.
This evening of free entertainment begins at 6 p.m. and features
the men's and women's NCAA basketball teams in action
against D'Youville College.
Kuzma Community Night honors Hank Kuzma, the legendary Barons
basketball coach who compiled a 95-19 record from 1954-1958, a
singular accomplishment for a small college team that lacked proper
athletic facilities and recruiting power. Kuzma led the 1958 team
to national recognition as the “Number One Small College
Basketball Team in the U.S.” Hank and his wife, Kay, will be
present for the entire evening.
The festivities kick off at 6 p.m. with the Lady Baron basketball
team hosting D'Youville College, followed at 8 p.m. with the
Baron men's basketball team versus D'Youville.
Admission to both games is free, and canned food donations will be
collected for Urban Mission Ministries. The first 500 fans will
receive free stress-free basketballs, courtesy of the Steubenville
Herald-Star. Other special prizes include free T-shirts given away
during both games as well as a Nintendo Wii raffled off at the end
of the night. Concessions will be sold at family-friendly prices.
