STEUBENVILLE – The Franciscan University of Steubenville
Lady Barons basketball team hosted Chatham University Cougars in a
non-conference game Monday night, losing 63-39. With the loss, the
Lady Barons fell to 1-15 overall.
The Lady Barons got off to a slow start, allowing the Cougars to
sink 3-pointers on its first two possessions giving them a 6-0
advantage. Chatham's tight defense contained the Lady Barons
throughout the first half, and took a 33-18 advantage by halftime.
The Cougars continued its dominance in the second half and built
a 20 point lead. Led by Kayla Hilko's 12 points, the Cougars
wore out the Lady Barons with a consistent offense and stifling
defense paving a path for a victory.
Senior captain Cara Mitchell once again led the Lady Barons in
scoring with 12 points. Marian Weber had a solid all-around
performance with six points, seven rebounds, five assists, and four
steals.
“We played with no energy tonight,” Lady Barons
coach Kelly Herrmann remarked. “We had trouble switching on
screens, and we simply were not communicating on defense. Marian
brought a lot of energy tonight, however. Cara's early foul
trouble hurt us as well because we really depend on her –
she's the focal point of our offense.”
The Lady Barons' play Pitt-Greensburg this Wednesday at 6
p.m. in the FUS Finnegan Fieldhouse.
