STEUBENVILLE – Cara Mitchell once again led the Lady
Barons in scoring as the Franciscan University of Steubenville Lady
Barons basketball team hosted Pitt-Greensburg Wednesday night,
losing 75-43. The Lady Barons are now 1-12 in the Allegheny
Mountain Collegiate Conference and 1-16 overall.
In the first ten minutes, the Lady Barons competitively kept
pace with Pitt-Greensburg and trailed by only one point, 18-17.
However, Pitt-Greensburg pulled ahead and took a 38-22 advantage by
halftime. The Lady Barons were unable to find offensive momentum in
the second half and it quickly became a lopsided loss.
Three Lady Barons scored in double-digits: senior captain Cara
Mitchell with 12 points, while Kristin Belleque and Sarah Clemente
each had 11. Mitchell and Clemente also led the team in rebounds,
each tallying nine.
“It was difficult without Marian [Weber],” Lady
Barons Coach Kelly Herrmann noted. “She is a dominant
presence on both ends of the court, and it's always hard to
play without her. We managed to outrebound Pitt-Greensburg by seven
in the second half, but it was too little too late. We have several
winnable games coming up, however, and we're looking forward
to the challenge.”
The Lady Barons play at Medialle College this Saturday, January
30, at 1 p.m.
