Loss Doesn't Stop Double-Digit Scoring

BUFFALO, NY – The Franciscan University of Steubenville Barons basketball team faced off against the Medaille College Mavericks on Saturday, losing 96-72. With the loss, the Barons dropped to 3-11 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference and 4-14 overall.

Five Barons scored in the double-digits despite the loss. Josh Ducoulombier led the Barons with 16 points. Connor Flanagan, Thomas Klienschnitz, and Andrew Kay shot 11 points apiece and Matt Liedel contributed 10. Maverick senior Mike Berkun led all scorers with 24 points.

The Medaille Mavericks rank number one in the AMCC with a 14-1 record and were ranked 21st nationally within division three basketball by D3hoops.com. The Barons are now 0-4 against Medaille since entering the AMCC.

“We gave a good effort tonight against a very difficult team,” Barons coach Sean Donovan remarked. “They are a sharp-shooting team and they simply couldn't miss tonight – they shot 52% for the game, and 53% from beyond the arc. However, we are really pulling together on offense. It was great to have five players scoring in the double-digits against the top team in the conference. We play Hilbert tomorrow, and it should be a great game.”

The Barons' next contest is on the road this Sunday versus the Hilbert College Hawks at 4 p.m.
