HAMBURG, NY – The Franciscan University of Steubenville
Lady Barons basketball team faced off against Hilbert College on
Sunday, taking their first road victory of the season, 48-35. With
the win, the Lady Barons improved to 2-13 in the Allegheny Mountain
Collegiate Conference and 2-17 overall.
“We did what we needed to do to win today,” Lady Barons
coach Kelly Herrmann remarked. “Cara had an outstanding game
for us and had 23 points. Marian was a presence on both ends of the
court and led us in rebounds. Jen Winkle gave us some great minutes
off the bench as well.”
The Lady Barons controlled the tempo of the game for the
majority of the contest. The Hilbert Hawks cut into their lead
several times, but the Lady Barons always responded with a run to
retake control of the game.
Cara Mitchell had her best game of the season for the Lady
Barons and was the key component in making the victory. She had 23
points on eight for 14 shooting, including 18 points in the first
half to establish the lead. Mitchell's 10 rebounds gave her a
double-double on the night. Marian Weber recorded her third
double-double on the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while
accumulating four assists and two steals.
Mary Zinni was Hilbert's top scorer with 11 points, while
teammates Julie Bossard and Katie Newton had 7 and 6 points,
respectively.
The Lady Barons play the Hilbert Hawks again this Saturday at 1
p.m. at the FUS Finnegan Fieldhouse.
The Lady Barons' next contest is this Wednesday at home
against Mount Aloysius College at 6 p.m.
