STEUBENVILLE , OH - The Lady Barons basketball team of
Franciscan University of Steubenville hosted the Lady Panthers of
Pitt-Bradford on Saturday, losing 66-41. With the loss, the
Lady Barons fall 0-11 (0-8) in the season.
Despite the loss, senior guard Cara Mitchell had an outstanding
performance for the Lady Barons. She was a presence on both
ends of the floor and finished the night with 14 points, 3
rebounds, and an assist and a steal. Jessi Darmelio had 8
points, including two 3-pointers. Marian Weber had 7 rebounds
for the Lady Barons. Maria Costanza was the offensive
standout for Pitt-Bradford with 16 points, while teammate Maggie
Dalton added 13.
"We played a good first half," Lady Barons coach Kelly Herrmann
remarked. "However, we gave up a few quick baskets at the
beginning of the second half, which put us in a large
deficit. We were struggling with confidence in the second
half, and it showed. Cara Mitchell had an outstanding game
for us - she was a true leader today, and had 14 points. Our
new guard, Jessi Darmelio, had 8 points, and she really contributed
today. We are playing better, and our girls have reason to be
optimistic for our second half of the season."
The Lady Barons are now 0-3 against Pitt-Bradford since entering
the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. However, they
will get a rematch against them on the road February 13.
The Lady Barons' next contest is this Wednesday at home against
La Roche at 6 p.m.
