STEUBENVILLE, OH - The Franciscan University of Steubenville
Barons basketball team hosted the University of Pittsburgh at
Bradford Panthers on Saturday, losing 65-54. With the loss,
the Barons fall 2-9 (1-7) in the season.
Senior guard Pete Burak led the Barons with 12 points in the
game. Connor Flanagan carried a solid performance with 10
points, while Matt Liedel added 9. Sam Moore of Pitt-Bradford
led all scorers with 20 points, with fellow Panther Zach Moore
adding 14 to the scoreboard.
The Barons are now 0-3 against Pitt-Bradford since entering the
Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. However, the teams
will rematch on Pitt-Bradford's home courts February 13.
"This was an extremely physical game," Barons coach Sean Donovan
remarked. "We got down 8-0 early, but we didn't panic, and we
managed to come back in the first half. Pete and Connor led
us offensively tonight. Connor also did a great job on
defense in the post against Zach Moore. If we had shot just a
little better, this game could have gone either way."
The Barons' next contest is this Wednesday at home against La
Roche at 8 p.m.
