Box Score STEUBENVILLE – It was a triumphant final game for the
Franciscan University's Lady Baron Tennis team Tuesday
afternoon with a 7-2 home court victory over Mount Aloysius
College. The Lady Barons wrap up their inaugural season with an
overall record of 4-9, and a successful 4-4 standing in the
Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.
Starting with doubles, back-to-back AMCC Players of the Week
Taylor McColgan and Mariette van der Wegen took on Mount
Aloysius's Julia Light and Kimmy Rentuma, defeating the pair
8-6.
Also taking the win in doubles was freshman pair Amanda Boik and
Marija Beck. It was a victory-by-forfeit for the Lady Barons due to
Mount Aloysius Lady Mounties Molly Hobba and Samantha Oliver not
competing in the match.
The Lady Barons also took the majority of the wins in singles,
with Marija Beck, Lyndsay Nadeau, and Amanda Boik all winning their
first two sets to take match wins. Beck won 6-1, 6-1; Nadeau earned
an early 6-1, 2-1 victory; and Boik won 6-2, 6-4.
Mount Aloysius was forced to forfeit two singles matches due to
not enough players.
Unfortunately for the Lady Barons, Franciscan University is
still in its provisional stages of NCAA Division III status and
therefore the team is ineligible for post season play at the AMCC
Championship.
Congratulations to the Lady Baron Tennis team for ending their
first season on a high note – hopefully a sign of successful
season to come!
