Box Score

STEUBENVILLE - Franciscan University's men's soccer team stopped its five-game losing streak Thursday afternoon against the Lions of Penn State Beaver. The Barons found their offensive groove scoring five goals, led by Leonel Lacayo's hat trick.

"We played well today," said head coach Johann Marin. "We were able to play as a cohesive unit and work together. I'm proud of how the boys pulled it together. We will use this game to look forward as we continue conference play."

The match started off defensively weak for the Barons as Beaver's Tyler Blake scored a minute and a half into the game. Franciscan rallied to fight back, with Lacayo scoring his first goal at the 14:14 minute mark and his second 33 seconds later, quickly giving the Barons a 2-1 lead.

The Barons continued their offensive intensity into the second half. John Paul Williams scored 15 minutes in while Horacio Gonzalez added another Franciscan goal 13 minutes later. Lacayo's final goal wrapped up the 5-2 win with less than 10 minutes left in the match.

Joseph Krilich stepped up in the offensive play with a hat trick in assists, earning the nod with two of Lacayo's goals and Williams's goal.

Franciscan outshot the Lions 24-9 on the match.

The Barons will take to the road this Saturday, October 16, to face the University of Pitt-Bradford starting at 3:00 p.m.
