Box Score STEUBENVILLE - Franciscan University's men's soccer
team stopped its five-game losing streak Thursday afternoon against
the Lions of Penn State Beaver. The Barons found their offensive
groove scoring five goals, led by Leonel Lacayo's hat
trick.
"We played well today," said head coach Johann
Marin. "We were able to play as a cohesive unit and work
together. I'm proud of how the boys pulled it together. We
will use this game to look forward as we continue conference
play."
The match started off defensively weak for the Barons as
Beaver's Tyler Blake scored a minute and a half into the
game. Franciscan rallied to fight back, with Lacayo scoring his
first goal at the 14:14 minute mark and his second 33 seconds
later, quickly giving the Barons a 2-1 lead.
The Barons continued their offensive intensity into the second
half. John Paul Williams scored 15 minutes in while Horacio
Gonzalez added another Franciscan goal 13 minutes later.
Lacayo's final goal wrapped up the 5-2 win with less than 10
minutes left in the match.
Joseph Krilich stepped up in the offensive play with a hat trick
in assists, earning the nod with two of Lacayo's goals and
Williams's goal.
Franciscan outshot the Lions 24-9 on the match.
The Barons will take to the road this Saturday, October 16, to
face the University of Pitt-Bradford starting at 3:00 p.m.
