Cross Country Finishes Strong at Inter-Regional Rumble

OBERLIN, Ohio – The men's and women's cross country teams of Franciscan University continued in their competitive placement at the Inter-Regional Rumble Saturday morning at Oberlin College. The Lady Barons placed eighth out of 24 teams and the Barons placed 22 out of 31 teams. This was the last meet before Franciscan heads to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship October 30, at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh.

The Lady Baron varsity team clinched top placement in the 6K. Freshman Nicole Krajewski placed tenth out of 219 runners with a time of 22:35. Senior Teresa Evans placed twelfth with a time of 22:39. This was Evan's returning race after an injury, and as of now plans to run in the AMCC Championship. Katherine Manion, a sophomore, ran a time of 23:16 and placed 41st. Senior and captain Lexie Mathis obtained her personal record of 23:44 and placed 67th overall.

The junior varsity race also showed great time improvements for the Lady Barons, which head coach Dan Kuebler was particularly proud of. Many of these girls had improvements in time – some shaving seconds off to others running up to two and a half minutes faster.

The Barons placed 22nd out of 33 teams, improving from last year's last place finish. Notably, the Barons topped conference rival Penn State Behrend who received 25th place. The Barons will continue to focus on the strength of Behrend at the conference championship.

Baron sophomore Bill Jones ran a time of 26:37 for the men's 8K, placing 80th out of 284 runners. This was also Jones's first race coming back from an injury that sidelines him for three weeks. Freshman Joey Schleuter placed 101st with a time of 26:49, and junior Kevin LeRoy placed 110th with a time of 26:55.

With an overall solid race at Oberlin, Franciscan will look to hit its highest improvements on Saturday, October 30, at the AMCC Championship as the Lady Barons defend their two-year championship title and the Barons focus on toppling conference leader Penn State Behrend.
