Box Score STEUBENVILLE – Homecoming Weekend proved to be good luck
for Franciscan University's Lady Baron Tennis team. After a
six-game losing streak, the Lady Barons defeated the University of
Pittsburgh at Greensburg, 7-2.
In a trend that the Lady Barons hope to continue for the
remainder of the season, they appeared calm and focused on the
court and the results showed.
"You could just tell that the Lady Barons were just really
comfortable with their game today," said head coach Curtis
Allen. "It was very good to see. They came out strong and
they were having fun."
Team captain and seeded in the number one spot, Taylor McColgan
continued to bring her confidence and skill to the court.
"Taylor, in number one singles, played very, very sound
tennis," Allen said. "She really enjoyed being
out there."
McColgan won her singles match against Stefanie Chaffee, 6-1 and
6-2. Joined by Marija Beck in doubles, McColgan defeated Chaffee
and Katie Izzo, 8-4.
Lyndsay Nadeau continued the winning trend in singles with a
6-4, 6-2 victory. Amanda Boik tallied a 6-2, 6-4 win, and
Mariette van der Wegen earned a strong 6-0, 6-2 win.
The Lady Barons host Mt.Aloysius College tomorrow at 1
p.m.
