Box Score STEUBENVILLE – It was the final home game of the season
for the Lady Barons of Franciscan University as they challenged
Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Mt. Aloysius
College Thursday afternoon. The Lady Barons fell behind early but
came back to top the Mounties 2-1 in overtime.
"Our girls played very well today," said head coach
Johann Marin. "We are very proud of them, especially our
seniors."
After the game, the four Lady Baron seniors were honored.
Caitlin Hansen, Mary Zbiegen, Kelly O'Brien, and Marian Weber
all received acknowledgement from their coaches and fans.
Mt. Aloysius struck first when Emily Burget scored ten minutes
into the first half. The Lady Barons pushed their offense
aggressively, outshooting the Mounties 25-10, but were unable to
garner a goal for the majority of the match. Regina Recznik scored
with three minutes left to tie the score at 1-1, and the match
moved into overtime. Overtime ended quickly when Amanda Looman
maneuvered around three defenders and fired a shot past Mt.
Alyosius goalkeeper Bethany Cocola, wrapping up a hard-fought match
for Franciscan, 2-1.
The Lady Barons are now 2-4-1 in the AMCC and 5-9-1 overall on
the season.
The Lady Barons are on the road for their final two games of the
season. Their next match is against D'Youville College on
Saturday, October 23. The night game begins at 6 p.m.
