Box Score STEUBENVILLE – The Franciscan University of Steubenville
Baron Soccer team notched its third win of the season against the
Mounties of Mt. Aloysius Thursday afternoon. In the final home
match of the season, the Barons cemented a 2-0 win to mark their
Senior Night victorious.
"We played very well tonight," said head coach Johann Marin. "We
played like we wanted to win. I'm proud of our boys, and we will
definitely look to keep our play up. Thanks to the fans for a great
home season."
Franciscan dominated the field with its offensive pressure,
outshooting the Mounties 27-4. The first goal for the Barons came
from two defenders – Pat Mahon gave the
assist with a pass to James Kozlowski
who scored his first collegiate goal 15 minutes into the first
half. The Barons went up 2-0 early in the second half when Chris
Loisel scored his second goal in his collegiate career. The
Baron defense, led by Andrew Straub and
Mahon, was resilient in resisting attacks by the Mounties, helping
the Barons hold on to the 2-0 win.
The Barons currently hold a 3-12-1 overall record on the season
and a 2-4-1 record in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate
Conference.
In a post-game ceremony, the seven seniors were honored. Pat
Mahon, Steve Duran, Andrew Straub, Chris Loisel, Christian Bobak,
James Kozlowski, and Horacio Gonzalez were shown appreciation for
their final home game and their time and dedication to the Baron
Soccer program.
Duran and Bobak, who have been sidelined for much of the year
with injuries, were given significant playing time in the
match.
The Barons will be on the road for their final two games. On
Saturday, October 23, the Barons will face D'Youville College
beginning at 8 p.m.
