STEUBENVILLE – Franciscan University's Lady Barons Tennis team defeated conference opponent La Roche College Friday afternoon in a 5-4 victory. The Lady Barons are now 3-8 overall on the season and 3-4 within the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.

This is the second victory for the Lady Barons on their home courts this season.

In the doubles matches, Amanda Boik and Lucia Neugebauer were the only Franciscan victory, defeating La Roche's Melanie Ward and Nana Karsan with a solid 8-2 win. The Lady Barons stepped up the competition for their singles matches, winning four out of the six matches. Notably, freshman Mariette van der Wegen faced the tough force of Dana Shima, but remained strong to win 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(6).

The Lady Barons will return to their home courts tomorrow, October 9, to take on the Bison of Bethany College beginning at 1 p.m.
