Lady Barons Fall to Full Court Press

Box Score

STEUBENVILLE – Franciscan University's Lady Baron basketball team faced full court press and smooth team momentum from the Penn State Beaver Lady Lions Tuesday evening. Unable to make a second half comeback, the Lady Barons dropped to the Lions 81-49. Franciscan now sits 1-3 overall on the season.

"We just let it get away," said head coach Luke Heusel. "We made a nice comeback with six at the half, but we kept turning it over and let the lead get away."

The Lady Barons were only down by six at the close of the first half with Penn State Beaver leading 34-28. Freshman Molly Coogan brought the offense with three, three-pointers in quick succession around the 14 minute mark and senior Marian Weber added five rebounds on the half.

"We fought back nicely in the first [half]," noted Heusel. "It was one of those games where we got the momentum up but needed to make sure to not stop working. We stopped working. They [Penn State Beaver] also had some great three-point shots early in the second half that made our comeback even harder."

The Lady Lions tallied double-digit total points by five of their players: Taylor Fulton held the team game high of 16, Shelby Parks added 12, Mia Smith tallied 11, and Jasmine Green and Brooke Mulneix each gave 10. Coogan held the team game high with 18 points on the night for the Lady Barons, and Weber closed out with nine rebounds.

"We need to play hard in the second half to get the win," said Heusel. "The girls will be ready to go when we get back from Thanksgiving break."

The Lady Barons return to their home court this Monday, November 29, to take on the Bethany College Bison beginning at 6 p.m.
