PITTSBURGH, PA – It was a battle of shooting percentages
for the Franciscan University of Steubenville Lady Barons
basketball team Wednesday night, falling to the La Roche College
Redhawks, 72-53. With the loss, the Lady Barons stand 3-17 in the
Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference and 3-21 overall.
The Lady Barons played a solid first half, but struggled with
shooting, hitting only 26.1% of their shots. As a result, they
trailed 36-20 at the break. The Lady Barons then shot an impressive
48.1% from the floor in the second half, but Redhawks held a lead
that could not be overcome.
Cara Mitchell and Marian Weber were the statistical leaders for
Lady Barons. Mitchell had 14 points and four rebounds. Weber had 12
points, and added three rebounds and three steals.
Chantelle Jennings led La Roche with 20 points, while teammate
Cheronda Ransaw had a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
La Roche now holds a 4-0 series advantage over the Lady Barons
since they entered the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference
last season.
“It was a good effort today,” Lady Barons coach
Kelly Herrmann remarked. “We had trouble shooting, but we had
a good game all-around outside of that. We were without Sarah
Viancourt, and that hurt our defense in the post. Cara and Marian
led us in scoring again, and Jen Winkle and Cait Donovan had great
games for us.”
The Lady Barons host Christendom College for their Senior Night
in the Finnegan Fieldhouse at 6:00 p.m.
