STEUBENVILLE – The Franciscan University of Steubenville
Lady Barons basketball team took on the Mount Aloysius College
Mounties at the Finnegan Fieldhouse Wednesday night, losing 69-45.
The Lady Barons now stand 2-14 within the Allegheny Mountain
Collegiate Conference and 2-18 overall in the season.
The Lady Barons took an early 5-0 lead and kept within three
points of Mount Aloysius for the majority of the first half. The
Mounties gradually pulled ahead, holding a 27-19 advantage by
halftime. Mount Aloysius dominated the Lady Barons for the rest of
the game, quickly taking a 20 point lead and holding it for the
remainder of the contest.
“Though our shooting was poor tonight, we didn't
give the game away,” noted Lady Barons coach Kelly Herrmann.
“Mount Aloysius played some inspired basketball tonight, and
were just better than us overall. We outrebounded them on the
night, but that wasn't enough – they just outplayed us
as a whole. Cara [Mitchell] had another great game for us with 16
points, and Jude [Clemente] stepped it up as well.”
Cara Mitchell led the Lady Barons in scoring, tallying 16
points, including shooting 9-for-10 from the free throw line. She
also finished just shy of a double-double with nine rebounds. Sarah
“Jude” Clemente was also finished just short of a
double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
The Lady Barons are now 0-4 against Mount Aloysius since the
Mounties entering the AMCC.
The Lady Barons will host the Hilbert College Hawks this
Saturday at 1 p.m.
